Creating Segments

Segments enable you to target alerts, menus, and widgets in Employee Portal (EP) at specific companies, and even specific departments, divisions, and locations within those companies. You can also target alerts, menus, and widgets at specific groups of employees. After creating a segment, you can assign it to an alert to determine who sees the alert upon login. To create and manage alert segments, use the Segments form.

Segments are expressions made up of variables, operators, and values. The variables, operators, and values create expressions targeting the segment at specific locations, companies, and employees. For example:

Expression Component

Example

Variable

The Targeted Locations section.

Operator

An OR statement. The following content explains AND and OR statements.

Value

In the Targeted Locations section, selecting CO (Colorado) as a worksite state.

AND statements require all expression variables to be met. The following sections function as AND statements:

Segment Setting (managers or employees)
Targeted Locations (specific states - worksite or residential)
Targeted Employees (specific companies or employees)

For example, you can target managers only, AND managers residing in Massachusetts, AND managers employed by the company Arrows Technologies, Inc.

OR statements allow for any expression values to be met. All options for Targeted Locations and Targeted Employees function as OR statements. For example, you can target managers residing in Massachusetts OR managers with a worksite state of Colorado. Or, you can target employees working for Arrow Technologies, Inc., OR Bob's Bike Shop.
